Funding and Financial Aid
Financial support is available to eligible graduate students accepted into the M.S. or Ph.D. program through graduate assistantships in the form of teaching assistantships or research assistantships. The package includes tuition remission, fee waiver, health benefits, and a stipend. Additionally:
- Teaching assistants are required to teach, and most students teach introductory undergraduate laboratory courses in Biology. Research assistants are not required to teach, but rather conduct research for a faculty member's research program.
- All accepted doctoral students are guaranteed financial support. Students admitted to the doctoral program are given priority for these awards. The support is for the entire term of the student's study, as long as the student is in good academic standing. This includes maintaining a GPA of 3.0, making adequate research progress toward the degree, and satisfactory teaching (if supported by a teaching assistantship).
- Eligible M.S. students are also offered financial support. No more than four semesters of support are given to eligible M.S. students who are in good academic standing.
- Additional competitive funds are available to students for paying travel expenses for trips to present their research data at scientific meetings.
