Highlights of the M.S. and Ph.D. Programs

Our graduate programs in Biology accommodate 14-16 full-time students at one time under the guidance of 14 full-time faculty.  Students are required to successfully complete graduate coursework and research.  Our graduate programs emphasize education in the total breadth of biological concepts enabling students to communicate effectively to any group of biologists.  Students and faculty enjoy a collegial atmosphere that fosters productive training and research. 

The graduate programs also emphasize professional development, with specific requirements that cultivate communication skills, including:

  • Formal oral research presentations each semester
  • Participation in annual research symposia on campus
  • Research presentations at regional, national and international scientific conferences
  • A minimum of one manuscript accepted for publication prior to a Ph.D. dissertation defense
  • Formal course teaching opportunities
