- At least 30 credit hours of graduate course work
- At least 30 credit hours of dissertation research
- Passing the qualifying exam (oral and written) during the third semester of the program
- B average or better for a 3.0 GPA minimum
- Satisfactory progress reviews by Graduate Coordinating Committee
- Passing the doctoral candidacy exam (oral and written) during the sixth academic semester of the program
- Minimum of one manuscript accepted for publication prior to dissertation defense
- Dissertation defense
- Finishing degree requirements within 5 years from passing the Ph.D. candidacy examination
